Starbase Adran, was originally a chapter of the British Starfleet Confederacy, then later part of Starfleet Sector Command. As part of both clubs each chapter was given a back story and setting from which to use as a starting point to write short stories. Creative writing was encouraged throughout the membership, and one story piece was used frequently as the starting point for many members to start their own stories. Many of these short story pieces are avaialbe to read at Narrative.
This is the back story for the fictional world of Starbase Adran:Starbase 504, located in the Adran Sector is one of only two Avalon Series space stations built so far. The Avalon series was developed to combine the best aspects of previous space station designs and bring all major station operational areas under one roof. Diplomacy, trade, repair and construction share the space aboard the Avalon series equally along with the routine day-to-day Starfleet Operations and the offices of various Federation Departments.
One of the key design features of the Avalon series, is it's unique dynamic hull design. The outer hull and structural framework have been designed to be able to withstand extended periods at speeds greater than warp five. This allows for stations of the Avalon series to be re-positioned by warp tug. As diplomatic and military situations change, an Avalon series starbase can moved to an area with a greater need of a starbase without the need to continually construct new facilities.Construction of the station what would eventually be named Starbase 504 commenced in August 2362 in Orbit over Dalteron VI. Originally designated to be the new command and control station for the region of space along the Tholian border, the station was re-positioned in mid 2373 when the new peace treaty was signed with the Tholians. Much of the disputed territory along the border became non-aligned space with the species in the area gaining their freedom from occupation for the first time in over 50 years.

Starfleet Command ordered the re-positioning of Starbase 504 to the Alpha Adran sector. Alpha Adran is an unoccupied sector of space central to the newly created non-aligned zone and both Tholian and Federation territories. The stations mission, to maintain the peace between the Federation and the Tholians and assist with the task of rebuilding a war ravaged area of space. Many of the races inhabiting the sectors along the border have assigned Ambassadors to Adran to liaise with the newly appointed Federation Ambassador. Several planets have already submitted applications to the Federation for full membership. These memberships will be processed over time and the applicants formally admitted to the Federation.
To police the area of space around Starbase Adran, and provide help and support to the star systems along the Tholian border, Starfleet established a Sector Command at Starbase Adran. Under direct control of the Commanding Officer of Starbase Adran, the Sector Command Fleet was made up of twelve ships on a rotating basis - with the Galaxy Class USS Carolina appointed as Sector Command Flagship.Starbase Adran can accommodate up to 500,000 people for day to day operations and in excess of one million for short term emergency evacuation. It's forty three docking bays located between the Habitat and Industrial Modules can accommodate comfortably up to 8 star ships per bay. From the largest Bacoor Class Starship to small type 1 cargo ships can utilise the stations facilities. For ease of repair and maintenance half of the docking bays are pressurised to allow personnel to work freely without the need of cumbersome space suits.
The industrial module houses the stations cargo storage facilities, heavy industrial modules and commercial sector. The manufacturing facilities based aboard Adran make the station self sufficient as long as they are supplied with the relevant raw materials. Industrial sectors 16 and 59 hold the stations dilithium processing centre and anti-matter production plant. The anti-matter plant has a direct link from the stations four massive boussard collectors, which supply the plant with up to a third of the hydrogen required for fuel production. The close proximity of the Alpha Adran Nebula provides the station with a rich supply of hydrogen from which to manufacture anti-matter.

Adran is equipped with 48 type 7 impulse engines arranged in one bank at the rear of the station. These engines when activated can generate a sustainable speed of one half impulse power. The engines are not meant for routine use and should be used on in exceptional circumstances to reposition the station over short distances. As the station lacks a navigational deflector array, accelerating to speeds greater than one half impulse power is not recommended due to the increased energy requirement to maintain the shields and structural integrity. In emergency situations however impulse thrust can be maintained indefinitely, though power consumption will result in loss of power to weapons, docking facilities and industrial fabrication. The stations main power core is slated to be re-fitted with phased pulse fuel injectors and multi-facet dilithium matrix alignment cradles to increase power output. To maintain stability the station is also equipped with 2488 type 16 thrusters to off set any inertia and reposition the station in emergency situations.
Following the completion of the warp core upgrades, station Engineering have put forward a refit proposal that would see the majority of the industrial modules forward cargo storage bays removed and replaced with a forward mounted navigational deflector array. This would allow the station to be manoeuvered at speeds nearing full impulse power during emergency situations. The power requirements of this would still require all weapons, docking facilities and fabrication to be shut down. The stations weapons arsenal consists of integrated multi-target phaser banks, pulse phaser cannons, point defence phasers, photon torpedo launchers, quantum torpedo launchers and two long range pulsar cannons. Each of the four main modules are protected by a dedicated shield grid with redundant generators and emergency power stations.
Starbase Adran's Command and control centre is referred to as "the con". Located in uppermost levels of the command module, the con represents a significant department from traditional station command centres. The con is modeled along the lines of a starship bridge, with all of the key departments having control stations located around the central command station. The split level design allows for ease of communication between the departments during routine and emergency operations. The con is usually manned by fourteen crew members, including the Captain and First Officer. During the night shift this number drops to seven. Station operations can be maintained with a minimum of three crew members with at least one command level officer.

However impressive the stations weapons array, it is designed purely for mid to long range defensive action. Only the phaser banks are designed to operate at close range. To augment short range defences, and to provide protection for supply convoys and diplomatic vessels, Starbase Adran has been assigned ten squadrons of Starhound Class Fighters.
The Starhound class was developed during the Maquis rebellion as a replacement for the elderly Peregrine Class fighter.
The fighters are launched and recovered from bays along the central docking hub connecting the upper habitat module to the lower engineering module. A maximum of forty eight fighters can be launched at once, with the remaining fighters either held in reserve or lowered in to the launch bays for launching as a second wave.
The fighter squadrons are organised on to a rotating patrol. One squadron will be on mid range patrol at all time with up to a further three squadrons on escort duty. Two full squadrons are held in reserve at the station at all times. The fighter squadrons are under the overall command of the stations Wing Commander with each squadron under the command of a squadron leader.
In addition to fighters, Starbase Adran has also been assigned a starship, in the form of the USS Centurion.

Is is hoped the Starhounds and the Centurion will aid Starbase Adran in its mission,
